Hi Tobus, thanks for sending the image. DM sent!

I wanted to see if anyone was interested in joining me for a reweave of the Glenorchy Type tartan that Peter MacDonald had researched and recreated under his guidance by Locharron in 2021. At the...

Very interesting. I was unaware that they had done this. I always had liked that they wore the previous one but this isn't a bad looking tartan. Do we know when or who helped them design this?

Agreed! Thank you for suggesting it all those months ago. I really do think that the box pleat is very cool though and Paul did such a great job with it... I will have to try that for my next tartan...

Ask and ye shall receive! This will be rather picture-heavy but it just the best way to let the tartan and the work speak for themselves.

Good morning!
I came back from picking the 4 kilts I had made out of the Fraser of Struy tartan. Paul Henry really is a fantastic kiltmaker and I am so grateful that Peter pointed me in his...

Continuing with the trend of posting about the late 19th and early 20th century Royal Family I thought I would throw this into the mix. It is George V and at first I thought it was a solid colour but...

What a great photo! I was actually searching for some of him wearing the kilt when I saw your post. I wonder if Peter can tell us what tartan he is wearing.
Many thanks!

I first got in touch with Peter about ten months ago. I told him that I wanted to get a new kilt made using an old style of Fraser tartan. He sent me his article on the Fraser of Struy tartan. His...

It is good to see that your research in this area is getting this sort of publicity. It was frustrating to go to the Prince Charlie Exhibition at the National Museum just to see the myth purpetuated....

You're right, I was thinking it might be an Enfield N.2 but the dates of the pistol are wrong for the time period.

Thanks, Peter. I realised shortly after posting that we would only be able to conjecture about the original use of the cloth. Additonally, you make a good point that lack of evidence in one regard...

Given that this is the first accurate run of this tartan since the mid to late 18th century I was wondering if any light can be shed on the original tartan. Peter's extensive research was enough to...

Oh wow! That is amazing! He must have copied this print. Is there any way to know the history of that print?
Best,

When I was twelve I was looking around in my grandparent's attic. I found all sorts of papers and documents from the early 20th century. I loved it and found it very exciting. I found a folded up...

Peter, this is SO cool! It is a wonderful tartan and that is a gorgeous herringbone selvege. It reminds me a bit of the Fraser of Struy with the colours and stripes. Thank you so much for sharing it...

Well, I'll throw my hat in to the mix and also state that I have only ever pronounced it as 'plaad'! I can't say that whether it is historical or not matters to how I will continue to pronounce it. ...

Thank you, Peter and John, for clarifying that and everyone for your responses. I suspected that it might have had origins with the feileadh mor.
South of Dayton raises a good question about the...

Hi, I have a current thread in kilt advice concerning an Edward VIII style jacket made by House of Labhran. I want to post a question in this section concerning the royal family wearing kilts. In...

Wow! This is an incredible photo, Peter. Thanks for sharing it. Is this a recent discovery? Was it a common practice to taking existing plaid cloth and fashion it into a kilt in the highland revival...

These threads look perfect, Peter! Thank you so much for your work on this.

Thank you so much for this, Peter. This is so exciting that we are nearly at the final stages of making this. I was so happy to read your work on this amazing tartan and it is so great discovering...
