    Latest Scottish Adventure #7

St Andrews Town Hall seen from South St.

Statue of St Andrew in a niche on the wall of Innes booksellers. I remember as a student that there were two pigeons, one on each shoulder, looking at each other - it would have been a perfect photo opportunity if I had had a camera with me at the time!

The fountain in Market St. I never seem to have much luck with fountains as most of them are not running when I am by them!

St Salvator's chapel and tower from the main quadrangle.

The Patrick Hamilton memorial, just outside the chapel. He was burned at the stake on this spot in 1528 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Hamilton_(martyr) . There is a similar memorial to another reform martyr, George Wishart, at the Castle.

St Salvator's chapel and tower seen from North St.

The Younger Graduation Hall, North St. It is used for various functions throughout the year, including examinations. But it is here where the graduation ceremony takes place every July - this year will be 31 years since I graduated and where, last year, Prince William also graduated. You kneel in front of the Chancellor, your academic hood is placed over you, and you are touched on the head with John Knox's biretta. The first student gets a full Latin address and the rest are simply given the words et super te - and you also. You don't get given the degree parchment at that time, it is sent in the post later.

    More to come!
