    V&A Dundee Tartan Exhibition

Some pictures from the opening of the V&A Dundee Tartan Exhibition. It opens to the public today and runs until early January. A tour de force and is well worth a visit.

The are so many wonder objects, both historical and more modern to spend time drooling over. Highlights for me included:

    • This stunning Royal Company of Archer's Brigadier General's coat c.1750 which is the only one known to survive.

    • The fantastic portrait of Sir Robert Dalrymple of Castleton, 1744 which I’d known from a couple of books but had never seen. Seen here together with a Banyan of a similar date.

    • The ‘Reliquary’ with the four pieces of the Borrodale tartan brough together for the first time in 100+ years; pieces of the Moy Hall Plaid; and the magnificent Ancient Caledonian Society coat c.1786.
