Re: The Jones is over! or starting, or whatever.

I'm currently suffering from the dread "triple jones" as I await the following:

    • A custom weave Matt Newsome box pleat (Feb. 5 will be the five month mark... But the fabric has finally arrived!)
    • Re-bagged MOD sporran from Artificer (at some point in April, perhaps)
    • Pair of custom knit hose (a month or two...)

No doubt it will do wonders for my character by teaching me patience.

I'm pre-jonesing for a new Barb Tewksbury 8-yard, knife pleated kilt, pleated to the stripe and made of 15 ounce, heavyweight tartan in the Macpherson Reproduction colours from D.C. Dalgliesh. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the tartan from Selkirk, Scotland.

I am officially jonesing for several new pairs of coquet (diced top) style hose in various colour combinations from Almost Unwearoutable, and a new pair of Loake Buckingham full-brogues in a lovely shade of brown.

I always feel like I am jonesing, as my Highland wardrobe is still not complete (like the cosmos, will it ever have an end?), but alas, that's it for now...

    Cheers,

I am right there with you! The other day, I eagerly awaited the arrival of my wife's best friend - we invited her over for dinner and we all had a most joyous time together - the single-malt was definitely 'out and about!'

Anyways, I purposely waited to ask my wife if I could 'pull the trigger' on ordering several more items in regards to my Highland attire, because I wanted her friend to be present, as I asked my wife, in order to have a material 'witness!' This was all kind of a big joke, but it does demonstrate the frequency in which I am ordering new things, and/or the frequency in which I dream about ordering new things!

    Cheers,

Ya, Im in that group. Lastnight was the end of 2 week (out of 4-5), waitin for my MacLean 8 yard. In 3 hours the auction will end on a set of hose. Still lookin for black belt (40 inch) & buckle at a good price.
Was lookin at a very nice tweed jacket, but it wouldnt be prudent right now. Maybe there is hope for me?

    And Yes.

Made it to the tailor last night to pick up my jacket. I was very pleased with their work, so I took another Harris Tweed jacket to be done as well... unfortunately, I have to "jones" again for another week as they kept the recently completed jacket to use as a guide.

So, I had my wife take a photo of me in my recently completed argyle (conversion) at the tailors. It is a beautiful green wool jacket that I picked up at a consignment shop for 50 cents! (p.s. - for the record, I do have my knees showing, its from the angle of where she took the photo... you can see skin).

That jacket is cut beautifully. Well done on your tailor's part.

Re: The Jones is over! or starting, or whatever.

    Thanks!

I was really blown away by the work... my wife said it looked like they had taken the entire thing apart (which they didn't), but the match up was seamless (no pun intended). I took it in and told them where I wanted it to "fall". She marked on it (I'm not sure if she had ever done it before) and that was that. $25.00! I spent a little extra and had her remove the exterior pockets and just sew the flaps back on (higher). Lost the function of the pocket, but it looks great... not to mention, putting stuff in your pockets just ruins the drape of the jacket.

Re: The Jones is over! or starting, or whatever.

I've assembled, made and purchased my whole basic kit with formal and informal options. The bitter irony at this point is that everything is done, ready and finished with the sole exception of my (off-the-shelf) kilt. It was ordered a week ago from Edinburgh and sent Royal Mail (signed for). The last word I have, from last Saturday, is that it had arrived at JFK and been turned over to USPS. I have no way to track it any further as a USPS tracking number was not included in the email from Royal Mail.

I remember this feeling. It was in the maternity waiting room...
