It's been awhile since I updated this log. About 2 months ago I moved to a new place, in the process of moving, completely, utterly wrecked my back... that's what I get for thinking I can carry a washing machine down a flight of stairs and still load it on the back of my truck.

I'd not touched anything heavier than food and icepacks since. For the past two weeks I've been lifting again, but very light.

Still on the fence about resuming the log.

I did a full day's workout saturday, power snatches from the hang, clean and jerks, clean pulls, and front squats. In that workout, I did clean and jerk 100kg, which didn't feel as heavy as I expected - so that's good, right?

    That IS good.

For me, the log has been a good motivational tool. Not so much this one, but the one I keep at NASGA, that is *serious* motivation because I know how many people are watching it. I mostly C&P the same words in both places, so it's not a big deal to drop it in here. One good thing about logging here is that several of my "real life" friends log here, and that's fun. Also, "just folks"...not diehard athletes are here at X Marks and I know that sometimes they look over the log. If that inspires a few of them to try out the events and get in the gym, then that's a WIN for everybody.

Just my thoughts.... you will have your own motivation.

    Well, in that case...

This last saturday I did the exact same routine but 5kg more on each of the main lifts (power snatch triples to 70kg), squat clean and jerk singles to 105kg, and I did some squat triples at 115kg.

During my hiatus, I joined a commercial gym and got kicked out my first day. I guess meatheads don't "fit" at "Youfit". I'm kinda glad, someone actually walked into my bar while I was doing front squats, because they were f'ing with their ipod. I get kicked out for making noise (supposedly dropping weights), but that asshat could have killed me and he's happily chugging along and paying his dues.

Oh, and for my android phone friends out there - I got an app called "liftlog" - it's a very, very barebones workout logging app for your phone that you can export the workouts to a csv file in case you are a data nerd like me. I've been using it for two weeks and seeing that I only do about 5 major movements in my gym lifts (power hang snatch, clean, clean and jerk, clean pulls, and front squats), it's served me well. The only downside for a kilogram lifter like myself, is that the app doesn't currently support decimals - and seeing that lifters lift in .5 and 2.5kg increments that makes for a minor pain. I've emailed the app vendor to see if he can make a modification.

    Forgot to update you guys.

I'm throwing Saturday. Sarasota Highland Games. Throwing again in two more weeks, at the Tampa Bay Celtic Fest. In April I have Dunedin highland games. I'm probably going to try and pickup at least one other game between Feb and April, but March is always booked for me.

So here's the update on my Games experience yesterday. No PR's (but what do you expect after a 3-year layoff from throwing?) but I did get two event Golds in the Heavy Weight for Distance and Weight over Bar. I choked on my best event and got bronze (Light Weight for Distance) and I got silver medals in caber and heavy hammer. Sheaf sucked as usual, and stone was ok but we had some strong stone throwers in our group. It was a good day, but I really wanted to win overall, instead I ended up with second. Two weeks to Tampa, and a second chance at winning my division.

I don't have any distances, except I threw HH 55.5' (bleh), WOB was 11' and I won due to zero misses, I took a 4th attempt on light weight for distance for shits and grins and threw 12' over the winning throw (that's what I get for choking on my 3 attempts). Oh, and the stone was smooth as marble, it was the shittiest stone I've ever tried to throw.

    Good showing, Josh.

Nothing like putting a bowling ball, is there? LOL!

I'm guessing your threw tight in the LWFD and once you made it to the extra throws the pressure was off and you threw loose. Smooth is fast, right?

Three year layoff? You definitely broke the ice in this game. Nice job.
    What class were you in?
