Of the kilts that I own, my favorites are all hand-sewn tanks created by Helen, at D.C. Dalgliesh. So far, she's made 3 for me, each from 15oz Dalgliesh weaves... a Buchanan in Dalgliesh's "Reproduction" palette, a Hunting Buchanan in Ancient, and my Leaf Peeper in Modern colors. She makes a fabulous kilt!
This photo, taken for me by Nick Fiddes, shows her putting the finishing touches on my Reproduction.
And here is the finished product.
The Hunting, Ancient...
And the Leaf Peeper, front, rear (my first kilt pleated the the stripe), and on a particularly lovely day.

We ordered four meters of double width 13 oz. Sinclair Green OC (Old Colours) tartan from Strathmore Woollen Company and Barb's kilt book, and this is what my wife made for me.

Great Idea! Jeez, I've been trying so hard to moderate my praise of Kathy Lare and just call her "my kiltmaker." Aside from her work - which many on this board already know well - I only have wool kilts from Celtic Croft (or is it Craft?)...in any case someone sewed up a kilt for one of their customers in the incorrect size - which, to my good fortune, just happened to be my size and one of my favorite clans. Here's my Celtic Croft House of Gordon Weathered.
Pleat shots tell the tale, though my crooked butt puts kiltmakers to disadvantage when showing off their craftsmanship.
I also have two wool kilts from USA Kilts - but they are 5 yarders so not really a fair comparison.
Here's the Cameron Modern with the pleats dancing in the wind a bit.
And here's one of Kathy's...the Royal Air Force. The pleats are cocked because of the way I'm standing - not her craftsmanship. Love this pic - was taken seconds before I stumbled dismounting the rock and only a few scrub oaks saved me from falling into the abyss and eternity...
There's an idea for a bumper sticker or t-shirt, "Die Kilted!"
The other day I was kilted at work and a client showed up and looked at me and said, "Who are we fighting today?" Seeing the kilt as a sign of a warrior. An offhand compliment - but a compliment none the less.
