For a general overview of "clan lands", these type of maps are all right -- my point was that one cannot take this for "face value" when doing genealogical research, since folks tend to move when things get tough.

I can attest taht the Menzies area (along Loch Tay in Perthshire) looks correct on both maps. The Castle is still there just outside of Weem.

That being said, I loved looking over the map. Old maps and charts have always sent my imagination aflame.

Aye mike you can travel to loads of places and never meet a Scot, Aviemore is full of Aussies (they are really funny though!!!)

in most of the "tourist" places you get a lot of English people mostly from Newcastle (Geordies) these are OK (especially the women !!) they know how to party!!!

loads of Irish in Glasgow!!

most people you meet here are OK, anyone with an attitude doesn't last long here.

In Edinburgh a lot of the tacky "Tartanarama" shops that sell crap kilts and stuff are run by mostly Asian people ("Asian" people being Pakistani !!) I beleive Asian means Japanese in the US. I have run ins with these guys and they can turn quite nasty (not, however as nasty as me!!) these shops are purely and simply rip off shops that sell shoddy/poor quality goods

Just to clear up confusion, I can only speak for the West Coast. For the most part "Asian" will be used (correctly or incorrectly) for anyone in America who is decended from East of Thailand (roughly), be they Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etd. Even folks from the Philipines, even though they are more closely related to Pacific Islanders.

To get back on topic: All these map sites are great and a detriment to my productivity at work... but seeing as I'm only here for another month or so, I'm having a hard time getting too broken up over it.
