I hardly believe that it's befitting to write off the personality of an entire nation based on the actions of two individual retailers. Such overreaching statements that may be interpreted as belittling and mean-spirited are in fact the reason why this thread has been reported to the attention of the mods.
Since this thread seems to be otherwise okay, I am posting this as a caution for everyone to please keep things civil.

'salright Jim, I'm sure no genuine offence was intended, therefore as stated, none taken. We're all being civil here already I think.

Yikes: my first time back since I posted my small tale of the customs duty. First of all, no offense intended. My father was born and raised in Yorkshire, I have many relatives living there and I love the English. In my few visits to both Ireland and England I have observed a very different attitude on many issues between the two peoples. In this instance I felt that the Irish merchant was more willing to, shall I say, skirt the letter of the law while the English merchant toed the line so to speak. Am I generalizing the two cultures? Probably; but that is what I have observed. I don't say it to promote one over the other or to demean one over the other. It was simply an anecdote.

No worries with me CTB. After consideration... and a re-write of the draft, I concluded you were not having a dig. Hence the smiliee in my responding post.

It also has to do with the items.....tartan with buckles and straps can go in a different catergory from tartan.

Coming into the U.S., the same bolt of tartan fabric can even be taxed at different rates, depending upon whether the fabric is intended for apparel, or for upholstery. The fun never stops.

The moderating staff do what they can to keep current on as many threads as they can (which are VERY numerous for those who haven't noticed)...
The reason why I commented in this one was because the moderators received a report through the "Report Post" feature, and as such we are compelled to action that report.
It was my personal opinion that a simple mention of this fact (and why the report was made) should be sufficient to satisfy all parties so that we can move forward and onward.
Unless of course, the rabble would PREFER a stricter level of moderation, which would be far more invasive and disruptive to everyone.
If you or anyone else has a problem with the "ghillie- "poofy"-puffy-pirate shirt thread, then by all means, submit a report to the moderators. Until then, we will continue to do the best we can! Deal?
