I'd like to be there. We'll just have to see whether I will embarrass myself or not. If the embarrassment seems likely I will probably just pass. Those are times when I hurt myself by trying "harder".

I put off mowing the front lawn for as long as I could but my better two thirds insisted. Of course, my knee is sore now. Never hurts when I do the nice and level back yard but the hillside/lumpy front kills my right knee. The one with the torn meniscus.

Yes, it was. Have you assembled your core blaster yet? There's a 16' WOB out there with your name on it and you do intend to claim it, right?

Hope is not a plan. ith:

    Throwing with the Rattlesnakes

Our group got together for a tuneup before the Vista games this Sunday. I strapped on my gear and threw all the events (no hammers in the Glen) for pretty much the first time this year. Today I had some stiffness in my right knee but no pain. Yay!

We started out with the stones, and moved on to the English HWFD (35lbs). I re-taped my fingers for the light WFD and it was a good thing I did. Had one throw where I "forgot to let get" and compressed my pinky finger into the corner of the D handle leading to a discoloration (a daily aspirin makes bruising very easy for me).

Next up was the caber. I brought up "Rojo" a while month with the idea that picking and tossing would likely be a good way of getting back into the groove. Now the slope of the Glen is fairly steep so throwing downhill is easier than uphill. Now "easier" with Rojo is a relative term. It's basically a "Lion" caber (4" shorter) and rates close to 600 on the Murphy scale. There were no turns that I recall. LOL! Throwing on a slope is "interesting". Rojo landed in the blackberry bushes/dry creek several times.

We moved up the hill for WOB. John Enzenauer brought the 70 lb Black Dog Throwers' WOB implement. It's basically an iron bowling ball boat anchor that Patrick found in a second hand store. Hilarity ensued.

The sheaf was problematic for several due to the on-field repairs (duct tape and nylon cord) and subsequent tearing of the pillowcase upon throw.

By this time it getting dark so we call it a day.

Sounds like you guys had a good time throwing. 70 pound WOB? LOLOL....I have a steel cylinder here that I will probably take to Allan Steel and get cut down. It's 64 pounds. I'll get a 42 pound implement out of it and then donate my old 42'er for WOB, to the Shaffer Field crew.

Glad to hear that your knee isn't hurting!

No Rattlesnakes throwing session for me Thursday due to a scheduling conflict so I'll be doing a little solo practice in the morning before it gets up in the 90's.

Planning to do the Hammer-Rama Saturday morning.

Boy. I sure could use a Hammer-Rama but I will be driving to Phoenix Friday night and flying back Sunday night! After 3 weekends in a row with games I won't know what to do with myself! We will miss you tonight. I think Dustin is coming up tonight!

    Park District Headquarters

    Standing the Stones

    60's Men 11K Shot
    10 reps

    Men's 16K shot
    7 reps

    Men's 16 shot overhead throw
    5 reps

Trying to get back into the swing of things although it's probably too late for this year's season. My throws have always responded best to frequent specialized practice sessions followed up by a once a week "mini-games" session. The Rattlesnake Glen sessions have filled the later role. Especially now with a caber in addition to the WOB/Sheaf standards.

If all goes according to plan, the current season may not have any official games appearances but I'll still be keeping the groove greased which should make next year and the Worlds a viable goal.

I didn't do the chins, oblique knee raises, and ab wheelies as the temperature had risen in the garage to 90 degrees by 10:30am this morning. Hoping I will be able to get the omitted work done some time tonight if the temps drop. It's currently 100 degrees in the garage and 106 outside at 7:45pm. Prospects for cooling are not looking good. Temps for the next five days are predicted to exceed 106.

Today's workout was the 10th session so I'm going to revamp for the next block using the "same but different" approach. Thinking I'd like to work in some standing presses.
