A Few New Pieces & Queue Update

Hi All, it's been an incredibly busy spring so far- loads of new projects on the drawing board and on the benches.

A new 'Envelope Top' day sporran just rolled off the bench- This one with an antique brass twist lock.

    And matching sporran strap

This one has internal pockets for a smartphone and Swiss Army knife, as well as a set of d-rings for key clips, etc.

And an ex-MoD rebag in a lovely wax finished cowhide with four knotted tassels (3 suspended).

I liked this one so much that I took a wee bit of time to make one for myself. My first "just for me" piece in nearly four years.
The really fantastic thing about this leather is that, because of it's wax/oil finish, it will very quickly develop a wonderful dark glossy patina everywhere the hand touches it.
    Instant antique!

Also of note, my queue now extends out to the middle of September, so if you were planning a sporran for a fall wedding or the Tartan Ball season now is the time to secure your spot.

Scott, I'm pleased by your queue. A) I already have my beautiful sporran, so I'm not in it, and B) your quality of work has been widely recognized and will keep you in business for a long and wonderful time.

Proud to be your customer and your friend.

It's a wonderful leather- firm enough to hold it's shape (probably due to it's thickness) but very supple and smooth. It's one of those leathers you want to keep rubbing your hands on.

I actually forgot to post a few (I have whole days like this) a brass cantle in a familiar shape, but with a new arrangement of cup & ring stamping.

And the sibling to the envelope top sporran in the original post

    Scott,
Always nice work and great sense of design. You obviously do a lot of historical research into what has been done and how it was done. Great to see such high quality work!

Yes, the waxed leather is appetizing. I'll be pondering on that one.

    Thank you very, very much.

I have been extremely lucky to have had a decent number of very old sporrans in-hand, and absolutely LOVE to poke around in them. Sometimes what I find is incredibly puzzling, sometimes very rewarding, on a few occasions a bit comical, but it is always an education.

I try to replicate the best of the old and improve where materials or technology has come up with a better solution over time.

In the end, my greatest hope is that my work stays true to the spirit of the antique pieces I was attracted to when I first started really LOOKING at sporrans.

It is very appetizing. It's funny, I originally bought it for an entirely separate non-sporran-related project, but the situation arose where I thought "Ah-Ha! I have just the leather" even though I had concerns about the weight (thickness). It was supple enough to make the project work and now I'm absolutely in love with it. I wore my copy of that piece last night for our St. Andrew's Society bi-annual Whisky Tasting. Maybe it's just having a new sporran after almost 4 years, but I am wishing I had a LOT more of that hide. It's so pleasing to the touch.
