    Tartan Identification

Unfortunately it's far from clear but can anyone identify the tartan worn by the Duke of Buccleuch (on the left) in the photo below?

Somewhat disappointing that he didn't choose to wear the Buccleuch tartan, or one of the Scott tartans, as he is the Chief of Clan Scott. Ah, well.

Tartan isn't a Borders 'thing' though, and he's a grown up with the right to wear what he (or his wife) chooses.

He can be seen here wearing trews in the Buccleuch Check tartan, also known as Haig and Gladstone. This tartan dates from 1908 and its Buccleuch connection is unclear.

I believe the designer was Colonel Sir Richard John Waldie-Griffith rather than Sir Richard Waldie Griffiths as per the entries at the above links. Sir Richard's photo can be seen at page six here: http://www.newmp.org.uk/sitedocs/war...00browuoft.pdf

Actually, that's the Buccleuch (and/or Haig and/or Gladstone) check. Per the register, #412 has nine black stripes between the blue while # 1569 has only six.

The Buccleuch tartan is here: https://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tartanDetails?ref=411
