The other thing which we need to do is make the date of the original post, which is in the upper left hand corner, REAL BIG so we don't keep resurrecting post that are two years old.
Or resurrecting posts that were started by people that left the forum two years ago.

Yes, this one has a bit of a beard, doesn't it?
Actually, I'm reluctant to close off older posts for future posting. If someone has something of value to add to a thread, I don't think the age of the thread should be a limitation. We had some issues in the Newbie forum and we had to make some changes in there, but that was a localized problem with a simple fix.

I don't know the mechanics of the software here, but in another board where I post, if you attempt to reply to a thread that hasn't seen any activity for a while it will give a warning. You can still continue the reply after the warning if you like. If a feature like this is possible here, it might reduce the resurrected posts.

The issue I am most concerned with is trying to keep the database overhead as low as possible. Every time we add another query to a function, it is just that much more needing to be processed.
On the other hand, a user can glance at a post and see the date with zero queries.

Have to agree with you sputnik - I hung around for quite a few weeks before diving into the rabble.

Ahhh, we don't bite.
I'll admit I've been considering a new avatar, however.
What do you think? Is it me, or what?!?
I think there are those that would fully appreciate the change.
If I were not so attached to my current avatar, I would switch in a New York minute. Some folks change avatars regularly. I try to find one I really like and stick with it. But this one is tempting.
Here's another one I quite like, but the bottom line is that I'm just too nice a guy to use this one. Seriously, ask around and you'll find people will generally agree.
No, this one would never suit my charming personality.
