Since I've Already Jumped In ...

    Greetings All.

Since I've already jumped in on the non-traditional/contemporary sectoion, I should introduce myself.

I'm not even sure how I found the board, but have learned much already. I got my Amerikilt at the Celtic Fling in Central PA this past summer and use it for my Ren Faire garb (its cheating, but inexpensive) and backpacking. My son like his for hiking, but I don't know how often he'll use it. I'll never hike in anything else after the two treks I made. Comfort, no cold wet shorts after the rain, easy mobility, no miscellaneous digging into my hips from the packbelt and the sporran perfectly holds the day's trail maps, gorp, jerky and cliffbars.

My wife has mentioned that she wants to try her hand at sewing me a tartan kilt, so that's on her project list, but since she's allergic to wool, I'll be looking for sources for poly-vis (already seen some good links on the boards).

To those who have already responded to my posts, thanks for the warm welcome and to those posts I've perused, thanks for the wealth of information.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've already got this thing figured out. There are several people here who can give your wife some good pointers to get started on that Tartan kilt.

Verlyn, welcome to the board from the Philadelphia region! Chances are that I'll see you at the Renn Faires or Celtic Festivals somewhere along the way. If the Adams County Irish Festival (by Gettysburg) isn't too far to go for you, I highly recommend it for a good family time over the summer.

Enjoy the AmeriKilt. I have one that I'll wear on that odd occasion. If your wife needs any help at all with the kilt... there's PLENTY of experience on this board!!!

    Welcome Verlyn,

Guessing your wife already has Barb's book The Art of Kiltmaking. If not there's a thread about it somewhere recently. I think her website is celtic dragon...probably find it with a google of those two words.
