Four-yard, box pleated kilts

Ok, gang. I'm jumping into the kilt makers pool and am now offering my services to make traditional four-yard, box pleated kilts.

The original tailored kilts of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century all contained about four yards of cloth and were box pleated.

This style dissapeared later in the nineteenth century, as knife pleated kilts became popular and yardage increased. In 1983, they were made again for the first time by kilt maker and kilt historian Bob Martin.

Since that time, only a few individual kilt makers have been offering this style of kilt, mostly those trained by Bob. Now I'm happy to count myself among their numbers.

Matt, that looks great. I may have to try my hand at it one day, after I finish my one kilt I have in the works and an Argyl jacket for which I have the material. Amazing how fast projects pile up.

Fine looking kilt. I"m going to have to talk to my wife about getting a MacQuarrie for my brother in law to be. He liked the look of the Menzies kilt I was wearing last night. He's a cuban national though, so I don't think he has any celtic heritage other than what he's marrying into.

Tell him his connections to the MacQuarrie clan are probably closer to mine. I have to go about six generations back to find that connection. He's marrying one! :o
