    Black? Brown? Help!!!

I'm purchasing my first tartan kilt (I have a Mountain Hardware hiking kilt), either Black Watch or clan MacFarland, and will probably go with USA Kilts. This will be a casual kilt for hiking, Highland games, festivals, pubs, etc, etc. What color shoes, belt, sporran should be worn? I know there are rules regarding black/brown with certain functions, etc, but what about casual? Thanks.

    Alan

It's whatever you truly feel comfortable in. I don't think any of us kilt wearers really care what the casual guy wears with his kilt. As long as your comfortable, just be yourself. Have fun. And that's all that matters.

It's not a rule, but in general, if your wearing blues or grays your leather accessories look better if they are black.
If your wearing browns or greens the leather looks better if its brown.
With reds you can go either way, but black leather usually is more dressy than brown.
The only other thing which you should be aware of is to have all the leather match. Brown belt with brown shoes, and black with black.
Because tartan kilts can be all colors (sometimes all at once) us your shirt color as the base. White shirt, black shoes.
    I hope this helps.

    I wear the kilt because:
    Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

The only real rule is that for formal wear, black should be worn. For casual or daily wear, either color is fine. So I tell people, if you are only going to get one sporran, make it a black one that is relatively unassuming -- that way you can get by with it for formal or casual wear. But who says you have to only get one? :-)

Thanks guys. I went with black. Got myself a nice BK sporran and a pair of Skecher oxfords that look really casual.
