    New Year's/Hogmany

Any one got any big plans for New Year's or Hogmany?

My wife works until 8 pm and I am home with the kids, so it is looking like my night may include a trip to the neighborhood gatherings and than midnight in our pub. Other than that is looks like a quiet night. I am doing a First Foot for a neighbor though.

My wife and I usually stay home for a quiet night, but this year we've been invited to the 50th birthday party for a New Year's Eve baby. She lives on a little bay in Sidney (near Victoria) and they plan to have fireworks on the beach at midnight. Should be fun! Happy Hogmanay everyone!

We usually stay in and have another couple over to watch movies and have pizza and some drinks but this year they can't come. We'll probably just stay in anyway though -- the roads are too scary that night. The others are coming New Year's day so we'll just do our thing a little late.

    Happy Hogmanay and New Year's!

    Hello from Scotland!

This year, I will be celebrating Hogmanay properly. ;) Although I have been informed I might get kicked out before the bells, so I can be the first foot.

Graham, we did the Rob Roy commemoration, yesterday. It was a bitterly cold march from the Kings Arms Hotel up to Balquhidder, but worth every step. When we returned, we had a good dinner and then were entertained by Cal and Albannach. Albannach lifted the roof off the place! As soon as I get back across to the States, I will get pictures posted with some links for you.

    Happy Hogmanay to all!

Going to the opera with wife, friends and inlaws. It's been a tradition for four years now. Usually in tux - this year Kilted, Argylled and black tie!

    BTW, what is Hogmanay?

    Happy Hogmanay!

A Guid New Year to ane an' a'

A guid new year to ane an' a'
    An' mony may ye see,
An' during a' the years to come,
    O happy may ye be.
An' may ye ne'er hae cause to mourn,
    To sigh or shed a tear;
To ane an'a baith great an' sma'
    A hearty guid New year.

    Chorus
A guid New Year to ane an' a'
    An' mony may ye see,
An' during a' the years to come,
    O happy may ye be.

O time flies past, he winna wait,
My friend for you or me,
He works his wonders day by day,
    And onward still doth flee.
O wha can tell when ilka ane,
    I see sae happy here,
Will meet again and merry be
    Anither guid New year.

    Chorus

We twa ha'e baith been happy lang.
    We ran about the braes.
In yon wee cot beneath the tree,
    We spent our early days.
We ran about the burnie's side,
The spot will aye be dear,
An'those that used to meet us there,
We'll think on mony a year.

    Chorus

Noo let us hope our years may be
As guid as they ha'e been,
And trust we ne'er again may see,
    The sorrows we ha'e seen.
And let us wish that ane an'a'
Our friends baith far an' near,
May aye enjoy in times to come -
    A hearty guid New year!

    Chorus

    (sung to Auld Lang Syne)

Well tonight is "Hogemany Eve", right? And it's Bay Area Kilt Night at the Devils Canyon Brewery!

It's also starting to rain. I suspect that attendance may be on the thin side. Nonetheless, Yours Truly will be there, carrying the standard and consuming his share of Silicon Blonde, Stout and Full Boar Scottish Ale!
