    Cameron Red and Black....Soon....

Just got an email from Kathy Lare. My Cameron Red and Black had been delayed at the mill a few weeks ago. She says it just showed up suddenly and she is already at work sewing it up.

I chose the tartan in honor of my great great great grandmother Catherine Cameron who left Skye during the clearances in the 1850s and sailed to Nova Scotia.

    Yes....I can wait....I think....I think I can...

And, she says my X Marks Tartan vest is done and coming with the Cameron Red and Black tartan kilt....double cool!

Well, actually, next on my list -if I can find it - is the Gillis tartan as shown here

    http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Heritage/F...n_Bgrd_FX.html

Problem is everyone wants the Gillis tartan to be the same as the Gillies tartan...want to honor Mary Gillis, who married Catherine Cameron's son John Macdonald Jr. in Nova Scotia.

    Gillis/Gillies

    Ron,

The Gillis and Gillies names are considered one and the same, just spelling variations of one another (much like MacDonald and McDonald). The tartan you linked to is not the normal Gillies sett, but it a known variation. According to the ITI notes, this is the Gillies tartan as woven by the House of Edgar. So order your cloth from Edgar and you should be fine.

Ain't this a wonderful board! Thanks Matt.

I was kinda guessing that, but the colors on my monitor were WAY different for the STA site and the St. Francis University site - and the chunk of tartan that the STA showed was a single sett and the university site had the whole screen...confusing my few remaining brain cells.
