    Hi,

    Tara Murphy ancient.

    Bob
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

Yes, I own both. I own an 8 yard 16 oz Scottish handsewn traditional in Watson (Father's side - Wood was too tough to get, but is a sept of Watson) and a 4 yard casual in MacKenzie (Mother's side). I want to add a Maple Leaf kilt as well as a Weathered MacKenzie soon

I'm MOSTLY German with a little bit of Irish (McKeown). The closest thing I have to a claim to a "scottish tartan" is MacEwen (what the McKeowns were in Scotland before name change).

That being said, the only MacEwen tartans I have seen are "ancient ones" and I don't like the colors... so I'm having MacEwen MUTED being woven.

Also, I have a German National kilt (also had to have special woven as it's not readily available).

Other than that, I have about 20 other kilts (3 of which are solids) in different Scottish names and Irish Counties... including some "generics" (Ireland's National, Scotland's National, etc) Why? I like them.

    Thumbs up

If some day I go for a clan or district tartan, it will be for my Valencia tartan,... meanwhile I'll have to keep to the universals, even knowing that there's freedom to choose but,.... I'd like to be linked more or less to the tartan I'd wear.

    ¡Salud!

I have a box pleat (Matt Newsome) in the Carolina District Tartan. South Carolina is my home state and the tartan is based on a Stewart Tartan so I have two reasons to wear it. (well...that and it looks sharp and is comfortable )

For now just the Livingston tarton. Planning on the Walker or Walker Hunting(Mom's side), MacDougall (Livingston and Walker are both septs), Stuart of Appin (Livingston is a sept), and then (in no order) Army, USA, Pride of Scotland and probably others.

I've got a MacTavish(Thompson Red) , although it is lightweight fabric and was not made well ( Clansmen Knitwear, imagine that ). I'll be ordering a Mactavish (Thompson Red) tank from Rocky here before too long.

Sounds like my Livingston tartan. I'll probably go with the Livingston Muted when I get around to it. And NONE will be from Clansmen Knitwear
