X-Kilt: Sew Your Own, manual available for download

FINAL NOTE: 10/20/09: FINAL VERSION (2nd edition) OF THE MANUAL IS NOW UPLOADED AND IS AVAILABLE AT THE URL GIVEN IMMEDIATELY BELOW

    http://xmarksthescot.com/Xkilt2ndedRevK.pdf

That link is current as of November, 2015.

That link, above, refers to the SECOND EDITION (the final edition) ...the stuff below here is an excerpt from the very first post in this thread from August 2006.

    __________________________________________________ _______________________________

OK, this is the "first edition". It doesn't have a lot of pictures, in fact now that I think of it, you'll need the pleating diagram as well, so I'll upload that ASAP. At least in one point I refer to the pleating diagram being "Appendix I" and obviously that's not the case.

Here it is, you can view it and print it from your browser...

note; 10/22/09... that link does not work, that link does not work!! Look at the link, above that is post FOUR TIMES. That link works.

I still want to write the appendix on making cargo pockets, and also an appendix on making an X-Skirt for the ladies. Still, the basics are there.

It might need some spell-checking! I ran out of patience after spell checking about 14 pages, and this manual is 24 pages long! It's taken me about 10-12 hours to write this and edit it and change it as I made the first three X-Kilts.

OK, download and read it over. Let me know what you think. "The Second Edition" will have the cargo pockets in it, and will have more pictures as well, but you can get started if you want to.

ANYBODY THAT MAKES AN X-KILT IS HEREBY OBLIGED TO POST PICTURES OF THE FINAL PRODUCT!!! **laughing**

I've just downloaded it and glanced through it. Having made a few kilts myself the directions are plain to me. I think a few pics would be of help to those making their first kilt.
Your patience and hard work in doing this are greatly apprecited.Thanks.

    Alan,

I'm really impressed! I know zilch about sewing and I COULD FOLLOW IT!
Can't wait to show it to the F-H.C.A.G.

    Thanks

Thanks, I'll give it a go soon. I appreciate all the effort that has gone in to developing the x-kilt.

Thanks for the info this will make a good designe for a kilt (or 7) to wear in a machine shop. Resonably easy to make and in a material that can survive frequent washings and look ok with loww maintanance.

    Alan,

The Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess just read it and LOVED it. She had just completed a kilt for Sinbad and was going to work on one for me. When she read your "manifesto" (her description) she smacked her forehead and realized that she had missed a lot about kilt construction. Stuff that isn't so important on a young boy's kilt, but would make a big difference on one for a man.

The F-H.C.A.G. sends you a big "Thanks"!

    Cheers
