    Help with Weavers Tartan Identification

I purchased these tartans from the local fabric store and I assumed they were just trade or weavers tartans (not assigned to any particular clan). I tried my best to find if they are any particular clan or district tartan but most tartan finders use the name first then you find out what they look like.

If anyone recognizes any of these tartans please let me know so I will have correct information when someone asks.

First Kilt fabric slightly washed out by camera flash

Second Kilt fabric washed out too

Third Kilt fabric - really washed out - dark rich blues, greens and reds with a tan overcheck

Just bought 8 1/2 yards double width. Will probably be a great kilt pretty close to actual colors.

    Any information would be appreciated.

I dunno, but I REALLY like the bright blue one at the top...a LOT.

Any more of that available at the store?

I get the most comments on that one and unfortunately I bought all he had.

BTW I just noticed this should be posted in another section.
    Sorry

I lost the link when my hard drive crashed, but know there's a site out there where you put in the thread colors in order and you wind up with the tartans it could be close to...if any.

Hopefully, someone will share that and I'll have it again too.

I think the tartan ferret at the Scottish Tartans Authority does that., I think. Here

Here is one site that lets you put in the colors and do a tartan search.

No worries, Mark -- I just moved it over into the heraldry & tartans section.

    Cheers,

I couldn't identify any of them for CERTAIN, BUT:

The top one looks a LOT like Holyrood, except for the red lines and the center stripe is white (in HR) not Yellow.

You can't really tell it from the picture but the center yellow stripe is a lemon yellow and the two on the edges are more mustard yellow.

The closest match I've found for the first one is red stewart. The stipes are identical but the colors are mostly different.

I couldn't find matches either, but I found some that are similar to the one above. To a trained/studied eye they're not that similar, but to many they may appear similar.

    Caithness District

    Ballater Trade

    Stewart Fawn Trade

Stewart Silk Artifact (with some slightly different color threads, this one seems similar)

I really think sometimes weaving firms and fabric companies experiment with existing paterns altering the colors. The tartan you show above could be a weathered version of a tartan that does not usually come in weathered. Just a thought. The tartan in question has a play on the Stewart tartan scheme/theme to me.
