    So, I made a kilt . . .

I have watched with interest all the attempts at kilt making. So I thought I'd give it a go. I wondered about a canvas kilt, but really wanted to try the intricacies of tartan. But the expense . . . and what if I made a hash of it? I saw the remnant of MacDougal on Fraser and Kirkbright and bought 2 metres. Using Barb's book as a guide and analysing my other kilts I set out. What a lot of fun! Altogether I think it must have taken me the 40 hours or so and I know every wrong stitch on it. But I did it! Total cost? $60 for a 16 oz four and a half yard klt, kilted to stripe. I am more than pleased with the result and thought I'd share the pics with you. I can see all the imperfections, but it was great fun. I would recommend the experience to anyone. Beats making model airplanes.

Nice work! Congratulations. You may be able to see all the imperfections, but I certainly can't. Well done.

It looks *great*. I know what you mean about knowing where every imperfection is, but look what you turned out for a minimal investment in $$ and a big investment in time.

    Good on ya!..and well done!

    Beats Model Cement!

Don't sell yourself short because of a few imperfections. You've done what few have done. Congratulations on your accomplishment.
By the way, it does beat model cement and several other hand works.

    Thanks guys.

I have just been making a change to it. I had put sporran loops on. I was unhappy with them and so have taken them off. I think Matt doesn't put them on his kilts. My sporran belt stays put without the loops.

Also good today, I wore it when we went out to lunch. Waitress in the local Indian said, "Very nice looking kilt." I wanted to say, "Thanks, I made it myself, can you tell?" but I restrained. Felt very good to get the kilt complimented.

I just tried to follow Barb's instructions. To be honest, I was quite amazed how it all just came together. I didn't expect it to. A very pleasing experience.

Loooks great Andy! And the only one who will notice the mistakes on a normal inspection is you! Just like when you hang your own wallpaper, you know where all the mistakes are, but nobody else sees them unless you point them out.
