    box pleated kilt

Well, I was at Wal-Mart the other day and happened to see some fabric marked down to $1.00 a yard. So, I got it to have something to practice with.
Last night, I decided to play around with it, even without a pattern or instructions.
I decided to make a box pleated kilt to have something sort of casual for my pirate garb. After about 5 minutes of playing with the fold....I figured it out.

All I have to do now is add the leather and buckles.
I'll post a couple of pics when it's done......whenever I get the time. I have a lot of orders to work on, so the kilt will have to sit on the back burner.

Well, I couldn't stay away from it. I messed around with it a little and attached the leather and buckles.

    Next....pressing the folds.

    Nope!
Once again...it was calling to me....wanting me to finish....So I did.

It's not the best......maybe not the worst, I don't know. After all, it's just something to practice on.

BUT...for just throwing the fabric out on the table and jumping in without a pattern or instructions....I ended up with something wearable and a better idea of how to make one.

Thats a good first go. It looks like the horazontal line are a little off. did you sew the fell from the waist/top? I think it would make a good knock around kilt.

Well, I actually think that it is just the way the camera captured it. You can see the lines at the top are above each other and the lines toward the bottum are below each other.
Out flat on the table, they match fine.

Knock around kilt it will be.....I just wanted to throw one together for the fun of it and see what it would be like. I'm going to use it with my pirate garb so I don't mess up my good ones.

You are right, looking close at the pic again. I need new glasses or less beer. Wear it with pride.....but I have some bad news......now you are going to be addicted to making them. I needed to break the news to you so it wouldn't come as a complete shock. we are here for you man.

Doc, you are probably right about me getting addicted to making them. I sew and make all kinds of things for a living, and making kilts will fit in well.
