The Nor Cal Rabble Meet and Compete at the Woodland Highland Games

It was a warm day in Woodland California with little breeze to cut through the heat till after midday. Gathering at the Woodland Games were X Marks the Scot’s very own Thomsec, way2fractious, The Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess, Monkey@Arms, Walkerk, Panache, Alan H. and Tim C. The Amazing Madalyne and Lovely Damaris not to mention Xena, Sinbad, and Thomsec’s two charming children were also on hand making it a very fun day.

Of special note Alan H. and Tim C. were competing in the athletic events and did themselves and X marks the Scot very proud! Out of 22 contestants in their class Alan placed 8th and Tim placed 5th.
Alan won the Hammer throw and Tim won the Caber Toss!

    Thomsec and way2fractious

It was a pleasure to meet Charlie after we’ve written back and forth a few times over the last year. He’s a nice fellow with two charming kids. Hopefully we can get him to come down and join us at the Devil’s Canyon for Kilt Night.

Clan MacNaughton’s Gene and Ruth once again offered the hospitality of their clan tent where we gathered to escape the noonday sun. The Amazing Madalyne and Walkerk brought some of the DCB’s lovely Full Bore Scotch ale with them which was a welcome balm against the heat.

Monkey@arms was swamped at the Utilikilt booth. Kent made sure he got a cup of Scotch Ale. Jake did managed to escape long enough to catch a song with us at the Wicked Tinker’s show

Sinbad and Thomsec’s scion had a great time playing together. Charlie’s son was delighted with the new Sportkilt his proud Daddy bought him.

    Little Xena holds court

Walkerk showing off his very nice new R Kilt, belt, and sporran.

If you were wondering about the third strap on each side of the kilt, it pulls out to be a beer…err…tool loop.

    Proud kilted daddies.

A number of us went to go watch the fabulous “Wicked Tinkers”. Here is Aaron Shaw marching through the crowd wearing the Isle of Skye tartan with matching green and purple argyle hose, a purple shirt, and brown leather accessories. The fact that I noticed this when he first stepped onstage is proof that I have been on this forum far too much. But as you can see, it was a great outfit!

Here is Keith Jones ( A MacNaughton) who also played through the crowd .

He stopped in front of Thomsec’s son and handed him his drumsticks. This young man can now boast that he jammed with the Wicked Tinkers!

Here is one small humorous tale I shall relate:

I was walking along when I saw a gentleman with long silver hair wearing a Loud Mcleod tartan kilt. He had on a wonderful matching kilt outfit with one small problem. It was on backwards! I followed him trying to wind up the nerve to tell him this. I finally had gotten close enough and said loudly “Excuse me sir!” when one of the heads of the Mcleod clan tent came rushing past me to whisper in his ear. The fellow stopped in his tracks and looked at him. “Really?” he answered and started looking at everyone else’s kilts. The two hurried off to fix the gentleman’s attire. It’s good to know the kilted look after each other.

There was good music, good competition, good beer, good food, good friends, and it was a grand day!

I’m sure there are more pictures and tales to come from the rest of the Nor Cal Rabble

    Cheers

    Jamie
