    And glad you did its a good read and to add my two cents... Plumbing solder is a silver/tin based solder that has no lead in it whatsoever.... and melts at low temperature as well.... wonder if that would be a good alternative to the 50/50 mix?? its a bit harder then 50/50 solder or is there issues with it from those who have tried it????

    This looks like a better method than shaping and filing the bolster out of 1/2 inch aluminum like I have done. I will probably try it.

    You can make a serviceable ladle out of an old kitchen spoon. If you hammer it a bit you can deepen it and even form the 'spout thingie" on it. I've done several that way. Split a piece of dowel rod and screw it to the spoon handle to lengthen it and give you a cool place to hold on to.

    Sure. Go to a cooking store and get a Lodge cast-iron butter-melting pan. Says right on their website guys use 'em for pouring bullets and other lead melts.

    Just don't take Mama's without tellin' her. (and gettin' her a new one!)
