For actual Scots/Irish
Mods/admin- if this is in the wrong place, oops my bad.
i know their are quite a few scots and irishmen here and i wanted to ask:
what if you saw a tourist say a yank or canuck with a kilt on, would you take it as offensive or be appreciative that one with scottish/irish ancestory is proud of it and finally seeing his ancestors' homeland?
I plan on visiting scotland for a family gathering that is suppose to happen and i dont want to look like a total mess.
thanks

I never take offense at anyone I see wearing a kilt with pride and respect.
I am more prone to have my goat gotten up when I see eejitous Scotsmen shaming the rest of us good kilties.
When Greg was here kilted I don't think he had any bad experiences. The worse you will get is usually someone singing 'Donald where's yer troosers?'

I'm always pleased to see more men wearing kilts, irrespective of nationality. Here in Scotland there is a certain expectation that American visitors will often wear kilts, because many of the American tourists come here because of their Scottish ancestry and will choose to buy and wear a kilt while they are here even though they might not wear it again once they return home.

Men should wear kilts. Doesn't make an difference what ethnic they come from.

I'd be curious of those born and raised Scots who would give a non-birth Scot a hard time about wearing a kilt if he himself wears one on a regular basis.

Answer to THAT one is yes. Wore my Black Stewart to a company function last week. Nearly everyone loved it... except the born-and-raise Scotsman. I didn't pay any attention... he's Indian by descent, so this pasty redhead would look FAR more convincing than the born and raised kid from Edinburgh.

Am afraid am maire o' a tradionalist, and believe the tartan kilt is part o' the Scottish identity and therefore should be worn as such. I wull naw lie tae ye, the worst that wid happen is somebody shouting "tourist", but wha's tae ken ye are fae anither country, plus it wid come fae the ignorant few. Ye hae scottish ancestry ye wull hae nae problems, a hae seen many Americans here wearing the kilt, ye'll be richt.
