    My latest creation

Photos to come in the AM. I just had to post this tonight to get everyone drooling in anticipation.

I've made yet another sporran. This time, I've gone with the standard Rob Roy style, but I've used some 2 ounce kid skin leather. The leather is as soft as warm butter, and is a golden color. My dear wife fell in love with the stuff, so I gave her some artistic license to pick which side faces out. She chose the suede side. Sadly, I goofed up the back and glued the back stabilizer (which I always put on the outside of the sporran) to the flesh side. So, the front and gusset are suede side out, but the back is skin side out. Even though I know it's a goof up, no one that has seen it has made any sort of negative comment about it.

As I said, photos will come in the AM.

The overall sporran has a nice western feel to it. I like the body of it a lot. The orange/saffron color is great. The over all construction looks great, but I don't like the look of the top flap, personally. It looks too much like cardboard and the edge a bit too unfinished for my taste. Maybe if you dyed it a darker color.

    Good job!

I agree with Sean--I like everything but the flap. It may just be the photo. I think if it were just beveled to give it a more finished appearance...if you like the raw look of the flap itself, just bevel, then slick or dye the edge. Other than that it looks wonderful. And I imagine it feels great, too!

No problem with the smooth side out on the back--you can always tell folk it makes it hang better against the body...

Jim, The workmanship is very good, but like others have pointed out, the raw edge makes it look ragged.
Tandy Leather has a took called a edge slicker I think. It is nylon with grooves on a half circle on one end. Not too expensive. Put a little water on the edge, just damp, and rub the slicker over it a few times. You can also order something called Gum Tragacanth from Tandy. Rub a bit of this on the edge and then the slicker. It makes a really nice smooth edge. I learned this from cavscout and am just passing it along.

Tandy also has the dyes and antique stains in water base that can be mailed.

    Regards,
    Tom

I've been meaning to find an edge slicker, but haven't gotten around to it.

I'm gonna see if I can bevel the edges. Photos will follow.

Wow, that looks like really soft leather.

Hows it in use? Hold enough? Any plans to put in specialty pockets inside?
