Ruddy !@#$%^&* pleats is now lining up just !@#$$%^& FINE.

And there's no doubt that Grant exists. It's that ying and yang thing. If there are beer goddesses, then there must be a Grant. If there wasn't, the Universe would descend into chaos.

Basting did the trick and lo and behold, the stripes match up acceptably, now. They're not PERFECT, but they're quite acceptable. S this is a six-pleat box pleated kilt in the X-Marks tartan....16 ounce.

I make box-pleat tartan kilts rather differently from what folks would expect. I put in a 2.5 inch-wide strip of twice-washed canvas to take the load of the waistband. There's no cutting out of pleats in the fell, though there's something vaguely related to a steeking line where I lightly sew down the overlapping pleats to one another on the inside.. I realized that I'd plumb run out of hair canvas so I ran down to Jo-Anne's and got some non-fusible, heavy interfacing under the apron on this one. So far, so good.

The lining went in this morning.

At this point I just have to stitch in the tartan waistband, then the buckles and straps and it's done, hopefully just in time for Christmas!
