    Visiting home

I got accepted to the PhD program here, which means that in a couple days I'll be heading home to visit. I haven't been back home in a year, and I miss it greatly. Plan on doing a lot of things, working in my forge, swimming in Lake Superior, going out to the Black Rocks, and we're even making a trip to Mackinac Island (I haven't had Mackinac Island Fudge ice cream in a year, and it's best on the island).

I'll also be able to get my good wool kilt, which has been long lamentedly hanging in my closet at home. I may wear it back, but I'm not sure if I will. It may go in the luggage.

Sadly, the big green fedora that I'm wearing in so many pictures here will not be making the return flight. Years of daily use have taken their toll, and it's losing its shape. It's still a good camping and hiking hat, but I'm going to buy a new hat for daily wear.

I'll have lots of pictures from the trip, though I don't know how much I'll be on-line for the two weeks I'm there.

    Cheers,
    Nick

Nick - congratulations on being accepted into the PhD program. I presume you have finished your Masters degree. Can we read the dissertation somewhere on-line?
