    Apprenticeship availability?

I've attempted to contact several professional kilt makers both here in the US and in Scotland via email or PM but I thought I would post a thread in case others also wished to know the same information.

I'd like to attain an apprenticeship with a kilt maker (either in the US or UK) so I can go and live there and learn by doing. I've made modern versions like UtiliKilts and a few XKilts and have Barb's excellent book as a guide for the traditional woolen variants.

Anybody have any advice or like to share any stories of their journeys as an apprentice?

Barb T. is very helpful and responds to questions. With her book and her help you may just suprise yourself.

Ultimately, it is less about becoming a full time professional kilt maker and more about immersing myself in something I enjoy doing for a period of time rather than something I do to pay bills.

I realize there are few full time kilt makers here who use that as a primary source of income and that is not my goal. I'd like to live overseas or somewhere new and learn a traditional trade.

Not sure if the Keith Kilt School is still up and running or changed its name. Hard to Google for.

Kathy Lare would know if you haven't contacted her yet. www.kathyskilts.com

Thanks Riverkilt. I have sent her an email as well to the schools in the Keith area.
