Show us your Vintage Kilt Photos

It was brought up in an earlier thread that as the vintage photos seem to be very popular we should have a sticky for people to show their personal vintage photos or vintage photos they have found on-line,so here it is, this really is an example of how things can work around here if you the members come up with an idea let us know, we will talk it through and if the idea has merit then this is what happens. A few ground rules for this thread.

    Rules

    1. You are welcome to post as many times as you like in this thread, provided that in each post there is a vintage kilt photo, descriptions of the photo are of course encouraged.

    2. True Vintage Kilt Photos only please do not take a photo of yourself looking like a true country gent then Photoshop it to look older, posts of this ilk will be deleted.

    3. Just so it is crystal clear posts that just say "Nice Photo thanks for posting" etc. will be deleted.

So to get this started I'd like to post a photo of my father in his kilt circa 1950. Dad gave me this kilt and started this adventure of mine 16 kilts later I'm having a great time, so here is my Dad in his Boy Scout uniform including Kilt in the Gunn Modern Tartan in Aberdeen.

I was surfing around and came across these lovely photos from 1945 taken at the celebration of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Bicentenary

Sir Iain Colquhoun(L)attending the celebration of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Bicentennary for which he made the arrangements.

Two pipers playing at celebration of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Bicentenary.

Graig Brown posing for a picture.

Supposed Royal Descendent Archibald Chisholm attending the celebration of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Bicentenary.

Some of the crowd of 2000 that were on hand.

I really think there are some wonderful examples of how to wear highland dress in these photos, and so I had to share them with you.

My dad's dad's brother. The picture was taken at Aldershot prior to his departure to France during the Great War. They were not allowed to wear sporrans at this time. I like the cant of the glengarry!

The same person, but I'm not sure when the picture was taken.

    Heirloom photo

I originally posted this in the formal pix thread, but it definitely is more at home here:

We believe this was taken ~1893.

From left: my maternal grandfather, then ~6 years old; my great great aunt Margaret, ~16; my great aunt Jean, ~7; a cousin, ~11.

Editorial comment: There is definitely something peculiar about the custom of small children sporting very large horsehair sporrans in photos of this vintage.
