Using pinking in that way is a very interesting aproach... I have seen the soft, thin interfacing for hems on jackets. I'm guessing that is what you are talking about.

Pinking edges of seams and interfacings is an old sewing trick. The 'broken' edge leaves no real line that can show on the right side as a ridge when pressed.

The soft interfacing that you've seen in jackets may be a bit too thick to use with this tartan. There are thinner and softer interfacings available.

As an addendum to my method, make sure that the interfacing is also a non-woven to prevent raveling of the interfacing edge.

Oh, I have seen the edge of the actual fabric on hems and seam allowances pinked, I just thought it was an un raveling issue. Pinking the interfacing, which is what you are talking about, is a neat trick. The interfacing I'm thinking of is usually folded by a third along the lingth, but I get the idea that it needs to be very thin.

Thanks for bringing it up, DC.
