DIY Sporran #3, Rob Roy Sporran
Decided to give this a go for myself. Stopped by a few thrift stores today and picked up 3 wool sports coats for conversion at a later date, and a leather purse and long ladies leather coat. I should be able to make quite a few sporrans with the leather I have now. I cranked this baby out in just a few hours. I still need a pic of someone elses Rob Roy from the back so I can see how it attaches to a belt? or is hung?

here's how I do it. I attached the tab before I assemble the sporran, though.

Finished... Once again Thanks to all you guys for your willingness to post pics and answer questions. This really is a great group we have here. I feel very fortunate to be part of it.
If I can get it to upload... I have pics of the finished piece.
I went with a Celtic trinity knot for the clasp button. ( cause I'm still a good 'ol Irish Catholic boy at heart ) At a later date I may swap out the braided leather for some Bola diamond braided lanyard. ( I braided this myself, and it looks like it.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I really like the trinity knot closure. Then again, I too am of the Irish-Catholic upbringing.

The Boy Scouts' stores have a nifty manual for doing all types of braiding! You might check there. What you have done is quite good BTW, just needs a little more practice.
Great job!
