Flight of the Saltire to Downtown Phoenix

We decided it was time to show the Saltire a view of downtown Phoenix -- our nation's fifth largest city. The skies were unusual for Phoenix -- overcast. Tour guides were Retro Red and Spartan. (Kilt information: Retro Red is wearing a box-pleated kilt by Matt Newsome in the Arizona Tartan. Spartan is wearing a made by himself X-Kilt.)

A view of the uptown skyline from Steele Indian School Park

At the Central Ave & Camelback train station -- Piestewa Peak is in the background. Piestewa Peak, formerly known as Squaw Peak, is named for the first Native American woman to die in combat in the US military and the first woman soldier to die in the Iraq war. Watch for more about Piesewa Peak in an upcoming adventure. See here >>>Saltire has mountain-top experience

A stop for lunch at Seamus McCaffrey's -- finishing off a wee dram

Phoenix City Hall in the far background

US Airways Center -- Home of the Phoenix Suns basketball team

Chase Field -- Home of the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team

    Hard Rock Cafe

In front of the Herberger Theater

The restaurant at the Top of the Hyatt rotates a full 360 degrees every hour

Stay tuned for more adventures of the Flight of the Saltire!

Hey... Those places sound kind of familiar.

    Sounds like fun.

Nice photos. Reminded me of when I was assigned to Phoenix back in '95. I can only compare wearing wool suits in Phoenix to walking around in my own private sauna (oh to have been wearing kilts then.) Thanks for posting the photos, it's good to the little airship getting out.

I've always wondered what fuel could possibly keep the Saltire flying for so long. I should have known!

Nostalgic for sure. 35 years in Phoenix. I helped build the America West Arena...aka U.S. Airways Center...

I like Dolan Ellis' name for Phoenix - The Electric Anthill -

Glad the blimp thingie made it to the Sonoron Desert....and the Arizona tartan still has me salivating....someday...some way.
