    Resurrecting Texas Highlanders (THR)

    Gentlemen and Ladies,

Is anyone interested in helping to resurrect the Texas Highlanders, or more properly known as the Texas Highland Rifles? I was trying to test the waters yesterday, but failed.

The Texas Highland Rifles existed as part of the Texas Adjutant General's department, as an additional duty for interested guardsmen, in the early to mid 2000s. We lost funding after Hurricane Katrina, due to no fault of our own.

I propose to resurrect the Texas Highland Rifles as a private, non-governmental organization, to resume its role of piping, bugling, honor guard, and eifle team (for 21 Gunn salute) at veterans funerals, memorial ceremonies, and similar events. The Scottish American Military Society will serve as our parent organization.

I have not posted any pictures with our rifles, because of forum rules.

One does not need to be a veteran to join the THR. Plan to drop the Black Watch, because it does not photograph or video well, and switch to Douglas or Hunting Stewart, or perhaps even Gunn. Anyone from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana interested in resurrecting this organization. I have all the Rifles, M1 Garrands, that we need, by way of a loan from the US Army which believes in supporting this effort.

Is anyone interested in a rebirth of the Texas Highland Rifles? Aside from acknowledging that we have rifles, please do not refer to weapons in any way if you respond to this post, or this thread may be terminated by a moderator.

    Yours Sincerely, ColMac

MacNeal, that sounds like a worthwhile project, I would like some more info on it. I wouldn't mind participating if I'm able, Looks like I have the skills required, except playing pipes!

A question about the tartan why use any of the various family and general purpose tartans you mentioned when Texas already has it's own lovely tartan, the Texas Bluebonnet?
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

A valid point sir! Perhaps we could even find a benefactor that has a few bolts of Bluebonnet!

    Cheers, ColMac

Perhaps I'm confused here, having been awake for some 30 hours, but aren't the Texas Highland Ri**es a Scottish regiment of sorts?

I personally was not offended by the Colonel's post and I may very well be alone in that. However, the fact that he had to censor his post so as not offend anyone and then was attacked for it does offend me.

If I lived in Texas, Louisiana, Oaklahoma or Arkansas: I would definitely support resurecting the unit. Heck, I live in California and I do support it. I think what they did before they lost their funding is great. As far as I know we don't have anything like that out here.

Why is everyone writing the word "rifles" like this?

It is rather odd and certainly nothing to do with the staff here.

    Cheers

Sleep deprevation apparently causes halucinations. I was sure that I saw negative responses to the original post including a quote of the rule regarding the discussion of weapons on this forum.

Oh, well, I'm going to sleep now.

    Please ignore/remove my last response.

I did a google search of Texas Highland Rifles to no avail. What is the history? As much as the Bluebonnet tartan is lovely and representative of Texas is there significance of wearing Black Watch? Good luck with this noble cause.
