What's the most number of participants? I'd love to attend, but I won't know about my travel plans for sometime yet. Put me down as a maybe?

Count me in! I live half and hour away from Petaluma.

March 6 would be the best for my schedule, but the last weekend of February would also work.

I don't know whether we actually have any influence on the exact dates of this class, but if we do, I opt for early March, as that should work better with my being able to get time off.

    Be well,

Star, something to keep in mind - teaching "carhanders" like us can frustrate Elsie a little.
Think of that box on page 46 in The Art of Kiltmaking. Sewing right-handed is ... encouraged, whenever possible.

Ten students is the maximum. (edit: EIGHT maximum)

So far, the count is five expressing interest: Smayniac, The F-H.C.A.G., Farlander, Dixiecat, and blackbeard.

Any other XMarkers want a go at kiltmaking? I have seen people who NEVER sewed before make a beautiful handsewn kilt in a five-day workshop.

(Now if we can just get Alan H to put down the big sticks and stones and pick up the tiny needle... )

As the time gets closer the details of dates, costs and tartans will be worked out. Because I am not representing a fundraising sponsoring organization (pipe band, St. Andrews Society, and the like) the registration details will probably be handled by Elsie, with direct communication to each student. Tuition cost will be set by her. Tartan is supplied by the student, often ordered from supplier or mill for the workshop, but sometimes already on hand. Elsie will want to know in advance the tartan you will be working with.

It seems that The F-H.C.A.G. has the tightest calendar window, opting for early March.

Let's see how this information factors into Elsie's decisions.

p.s. to Wompet: Last month the catch phrase was "Stand up!" Then Elsie would slide into the seat and throw a few stitches in the twinkling of an eye to demonstrate the proper technique. I confess I was ousted from my chair frequently.

Well, I've already made 2 kilts from her instructions, and I simply sewed the pleats right handed. Hopefully that will be enough to recommend me. If not, oh well. I'll come and help with the after hours fun at least!

I'm going to order Nichol tartan for Jamie's kilt. It's symmetrical. If I can't do it at the workshop, I'll do it on my own.

    Be well,

Well, that puts you two kilts ahead of me when I took her course.
And helping with the after hours fun does help.

I have one semi by the book kilt in my closet. I would probably bring my MacBeth if it ends up working into my schedule; March could be a problem, it depends on how the world is looking by then.

BTW another south-paw is in the mix.
But I'm working on my own demons at the moment.
