    I am also interested

Very much interested in fact. So much depends on the dates and cost though.

I'd be interested as well - being in San Francisco and so close as it is - but cost and time would be huge factors... Besides the required "home ec" in 6th grade, I've not sewed anything.

Does anyone have an idea of cost? - rough estimate would be great!

    Another Southpaw,
    Noah

I would be interested in Troy NY in 2010. I would camp there since it is summer. What is the cost? Who gets the fabric?

    Troy Class

I attended the Braemar school of highland dance and kiltmaking this year and made my own tank. It was one of the best weeks vacation I've ever had. The teacher Judy Sullivan was taught by Elsie. I highly recommend this class. At $485 for room board and instruction you cant go wrong. You bring your own tartan, scissors and work light and Judy supplies everything else. here is a link to this years brochure. http://www.highlandisland.com/media/..._June27_NY.pdf

    Hey Gozzard
I was in the class with you. and it was great fun! Took a week for my fingers to get back to normal. I plan going again in 2010.
I saw some of our class mates last week-end at Loon Mountain....

Nope... I'm looking at the material, right now for my last two kilts. One is for Bethany and one is for Piper George. They're in my room as I write this.

Even seven thumbed me would consider the opportunity to learn from Elsie and make my own (albeit probably crappy quality) tank a phenomenal learning experience about what goes into making a kilt. It has been literally years since I sewed anything more than a button, although I have sewn pants, shirts, a kaftan, and numerous kites in my younger years.

As others, time, place, and expense would be determining factors, but I am sure I could find some tartan to work with by late winter.

The dates and place have been set

From a call this morning, the details thus far are these:

Who: No more than EIGHT XMarkers.

What: A kiltmaking workshop with Elsie Stuehmeyer.

Where: A townhome association's common hall in Petaluma, California.

When: Saturday, March 6th through Wednesday, March 10th of 2010.

Why: C'mon! How long have you been on XMarksTheScot? We're gonna make some beautiful, gorgeous (but still ruggedly handsome) kilts.

Costs: Participants are responsible for travel, lodging, meals, tartan to be sewn (pre-notified to Elsie via sign up), a supplies fee (approx. $25), and a small donation for the townhome association (approx. $25).

*** (Disclaimers: Damages and legal costs incurred due to over-exuberant participation in after-hours celebrations, such as pub-crawling or kilt nights, are the sole responsibility of the participant. Further, participant agrees that any images or recordings of himself/herself taken during aforesaid bacchanalian revelry may be posted without notification or compensation for the entertainment of absent XMarkers.) ***

Other activities - probably more sedate or pedestrian, definitely less entertaining - will likely be available.

In order to sign up for this extraordinary workshop, a flyer with contacts, final details, and woolen mill information will be available soon.

Wow! That's it?! Only $50.00? Doesn't Elsie deserve a fee too? I know that tartan, travel and lodging are not trivial expenses, but still....no fee for the class itself seems very generous.

    Be well,

    Star
