So I think you're very much on the right track.
Ha ha ha wonderful advice! I have plenty of time at 24, and two years of law school to get up to drinking whisky neat. I can say reading at night does seem a tad warmer and more enjoyable in cold nh.

From my undergraduate psychology class (in 1979): "State-dependent learning depends on the observation that things learned in a particular mental state or condition will best be recalled if the subject is in a similar condition at time of recall."
Translation: If you're drinking whisky and studying, you'll remember better if you drink some whisky before the test.

Now on to business! My favorite whisky is Penderyn (http://www.welsh-whisky.co.uk/home.html). It’s a wonderful single malt welsh whisky that goes down beautifully!!
Enjoy!

Yup, that is what I learned in school as well. Probably why I throw darts better after half a dozen beers, golf better after a wee nip of "swing lube", and have more luck picking up women after a few scotches neat. Needless to say, my wife makes sure to limit my public scotch intake nowadays.

Oh, I take water with my whisky, but not in it.

I cannot remember who told me to remember that only two things should ever touch fine whisky---a glass and your lips.
No water for me---not even a back. I like to let my whisky live in my mouth, tastebuds, and memory for as long as I can get it to linger there. And sometimes I help it stay there a wee bit longer with a second dram.

I tend to take most spirits neat though I will, in the interests of science, allow a few drops to dilute a snifter of cask-strength.

Well as a newbie to single malt scotch, I must say that on a budget, I have tried 2 types:
1) Tamnavulin
2) Glenfiddich
And I believe I would rate them in that order but as I say I know ALMOST nothing but I am willing to learn.
Thanks all,
Eric
