The entire set is a thing of beauty, but I just love that etching.
    Thanks again for the photos.

My pleasure to share them with the X Marks crowd and the comments are very much appreciated. A curious side note; I've long tried to identify the actual silversmith of the second Dirk beyond just knowing the supplier was Forsyth as shown by their stamping on the fittings.

I'd run out of avenues to follow. In placing these photos in the Forum I saw some of them in a larger format than I'd ever printed or reviewed. What should shown up above the suppliers brand and hallmarks on the photo one page back but a faint pair of initials DW tucked up under the frog hanging bar.

Very faint but now clearly identified. The hunt is on again through the British Hallmarks registry for sterling silver and a few other Forums on the Net. Should anyone here in the Forum have any ideas about DW I'd appreciate a note or a reference. The hunts the thing.
    Cheers,

    Capt Bruce

These are lovely dirks, I especially like the second one, the etched blade is superb. I have a few Wilkinson Sword Sgiannan with etched blades that I thought were nice, but they are not in that league, smashing.

On another note, I quoted Terry, because my Grand Father fought with the Argyll's during the First World War, perhaps you would post your link to your web site.
