    Ren Fair

I've been going to ren fairs since i was a little kid and I want to put together a kilted outfit that isn't totally historically inaccurate.

I know some of the first references to the belted plaid where around 1600, so my question is what might a common highlander have worn with his kilt and where can i find similar items without breaking the bank?

    But, since you asked: http://www.angusharveykiltmaker.com/

I can vouch for Angus, as he's a friend (my sister's jewelry shop is just down the street from him at Bristol)

I hate to say it - but some thing can be found on Ebay as well. I have seen a few rabbit fur sporrans that run $100 - bidding for a round $35-40.

If you are looking for a claymore - they have some there that are under $100 "Buy it now" pricing. The blade may be a cheap replica - but at faire you have to keep it sheathed. So, it the hilt looks nice and it's sheath - same some money and the weigh on a real claymore.

E-bay "buy it now" for $30 - looks like the shirts typically seen at the faire's for 1/2 the price
