    Burns Night in New Mexico

Its only a 4 hour drive from Denver, and on Saturday, January 23 at 6:30 PM, Taos will have another of its FREE Burns Night celebrations at the Michael McCormick Gallery. Pot luck( I'm doing scotch eggs, folks love them, and no one except us knows that they are not traditional), BYO. Expected attendance based upon previous years will be 60-80, plus you!.

Scottish Country Dancing will start the festivities at 630PM. Taos has a long Scottish heritage starting before Kit Carson, (He also used to ride his mule from Pueblo, CO to Taos in 24 hours), and Taos really embraces this free form, participatory celebration. Do not expect the high brow traditional, but do be prepared for fun and all of the Burns Night basics, done with a paper plate in one hand and a plastic cup in the other. Be prepared to stand.

If you even look like you know anything about Burns, you will be asked to participate, so come prepared with a couple of options. Kathy Lare Kiltmaker, has not even started on my Kilt, so I will be wearing my new Balmoral. But PLEASE do come on down. I find the quickest way is to head west at Walsenberg, and then south at Fort Garland. I can frequently make the trip in 4 hours or less from here to Park Meadows Mall.

The Michael McCormick Gallery is across from the Historic Taos Inn, 4 doors before the Plaza, on the main drag through town. http://www.mccormickgallery.com/contact.html

Oh, that sounds like fun! I love Taos... My car won't survive the trip, though... Take pictures. We'll plan to attend next year.

Oh this sounds like a lot of fun. I'm "In-state" but Taos is about 400~ miles from me. Such short notice I'll not be able to attend. But, if this is annual, perhaps next year.

I wish it was last weekend, as I had business in Silver City, and I could have made it then. Oh well, that is life.
