College of Piping and Pipers Tryst Hotel Glasgow

I was on a bus trip yesterday around Glasgow. The event involved riding a 1961 ex-London Routemaster on some of the Glasgow routes which it served beween 1986 and 1992. I've uploaded my full set of thirty pics from the day to Flickr but here I post only the two which are of relevance to Xmarks. Firstly approaching the junction with Cowcaddens Road from the top of Hope Street the sandstone building we see comprises the National Piping Centre (left) and the Pipers Tryst Hotel (right).

Posing later in Glasgow University tartan for a photo at Summerston terminus on the north-western suburbs of Glasgow. I am not yet fully recovered, later in the day I took a dizzy turn and fell over. No serious injury, just a minor graze to my knee, but because I am on warfarin it dribbled blood throughout the drive home, soaking the inner apron of the kilt in blood. Overnight and today I have been steeping the affected area of the kilt in cold water to try to remove the stain.

Thanks for the pics. I look forward to all the great ones that you send from Scotland. Get that knee better, and keep the pics coming. Best wishes! Dennis

I am sorry to hear of your mishap Alex. If your kilt is made of wool, try a heap of DAMP table salt on the blood stained area, let it dry and brush it off. We use it to remove blood stains off our shooting suits. Perfect? Not always, but it helps.

    Alex,

Might the first picture not be the "piping centre"? When I visited Glasgow about a decade ago, the CoP was on Otago St. They have since done some renovations, but I don't think it's moved.

I hope you get feeling better. As far as blood stains go, have you tried hydrogen peroxide?

    Cordially,

    David
