    Norman Question

Could someone please provide me with the list of the Scottish clans of Norman origins (Normandy, France).

    Thank you,

    Robert

Certainly Fraser comes to mind, Robert.

Burnett is hazy... it could possibly be of Norman origin, but nobody seems to be sure. Stems from Bernhard, I believe.

Not a clan per se but my Mother's Dad's family, the Lattas, were Scots with Norman origins. My Great Grandfather to the nth degree worked for Richard the Lionheart and one of the members of the family that stayed in France is listed among those who stormed the Bastille.

I believe Adam de Gordon, progenitor of the Gordons was a Norman. Also the Grahams, Lindsays, Montgomerys, Setons, Sinclairs, Hays and probably others. Of course there are also clans that descend from Norse raiders who didn't detour to the north of France (Normandie), but went straight to Scotland.

im not %100 sure but i believe my clan "The Chisholm" might have came over with the normans ,the name back in the 1200s was "de Chesehelme"
Alexander de Chesholm witnessed a charter c.1248
john chesehelme was mentioned in a letter to Pope Alexander IV in 1254

and another clan of mine "The Bruce" was known as "de Brus " they originated in Brix northern France

The Grants and the Comyns/Cummings are believed to have Norman roots, Robert.

Also see this article from the Clan Hay Society's web site:
