You may recall Ann had wanted to buy me a kilt in the McConnell tartan, which was her maiden name. Her paternal line farmed in Dailly parish in Ayrshire for generations, the earliest record is of one of her direct ancestors James McConnel of Girvan who married Mary Doak of Dailly at Dailly on 21st January 1720.
The kilt was not expected until mid August, however it was ready early and I went to Andersons kilt shop in Dumfries to collect it today. The kilt is 8 yard strome weight in McConnell tartan woven by Dalgleish of Selkirk.
This is the first photo of the new kilt, taken by Pour1Malt outside the entrance to Ferintosh Guest House.
The obligatory pleats shot.
In the evening I visited Ann to show her the kilt.
As an aside here is a window display from Andersons in which the mannequins wear traditional style kilts with tee-shirts and no belts. Superscot on the left of the photo is wearing the Queen of the South tartan.
