    From the Barley's website regarding Burns' Night (http://barleysbrewing.com/smokehouse/burns2011.html)

    It's that time of year again... We've planned our twelfth annual Robert Burns Dinner and Robert Burns Scottish Export Ale Tapping for 2011. Let the debauchery commence!

    Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759. Had he been born today, there is no doubt he would have had rock star status around the globe. He's considered the poet laureate of Scotland and for good reason. Burns was a hopeless romantic; he loved his drink and his women; quite poor, then quite famous; a member of "the society of secrets" and politically active. Perhaps best known for writing Auld Lang Syne, a required song on New Year's Eve thoughout the world, he also wrote some of the most memorable poetry in history. Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men borrows from one of Rabbie's poems.

    We celebrate this complex man every January, and this year is no exception. If you've never been to this event, you are in for a rare treat. You will laugh (and you probably should cry as well), you will be treated to some fine libations, you'll enjoy a four course Scottish-inspired dinner and you may even learn a little something. As the evening goes on, the room gets a little more R (and maybe even X) rated, as we recite poetry Burns wrote but never intended to see the light of day.

    We even bring in Scottish bagpipes and drums to make for a memorable evening. We ask that you get to the bar no later than about 6:15 PM and wait for the Piping of the Haggis. We'll come out of the kitchen with bagpipes at full volume with the haggis on a silver platter, preceded by crossed bottles of single malt scotch (that you'll be drinking later.)

    You'll follow the parade into our private Robert Burns Tap Room, where the tables have been set for the upcoming evening. As you take your seats, the haggis will make its way to the podium where we'll recite An Address the Haggis, written by Rabbie, of course. The night has just begun...

    Here's what you'll be regaled with:

    * Piping of the Haggis
    * Address to Haggis
    * reciting of the Kelkirk Grace
    * a toast to Rabbie! (your first single malt Scotch of the evening)
    * introductory remarks
    * first course: Haggis with Tatties and Neeps
    * Burns' poetry recital by you! (Be sure to bring a poem or two you found on the 'net. We promise you won't have as good a time unless you stand to recite a poem--you don't have to be first!)
    * ... you get the idea!

    From then on, we'll mix it up with poetry and additional food courses. This year, in addition to haggis, we're offering the following:

    * Salad Course: pear, arugula and panchetta salad with Scotch egg garnish and Champagne honey viniagrette
    * Dinner Course: Braised beef shank with rosemary and thyme and current jus and barley risotto
    * Dessert Course: rhubarb and raspberry jam roly-poly with vanilla custard sauce

    Three single malt Scotch whiskys:

    * (likely) Tamdhu Single Malt Highlands
    * (set) MacLelland's Single Malt Lowland 80 proof
    * (set) Bruichladdich Single Malt Islay 92 proof

    Tapping of Robert Burns Scottish Export Ale in the firkin:

    * You'll be the first to taste our twelfth edition of this fine ale that we only make once a year
    * We'll tap it as the dinner course is being served
    * We'll drink it until the entire firkin is gone!

    More poetry, more fun, more blue... if you've been to this event before, you're bored reading this because there is no way to describe how fun the evening is. If you've never atteneded before, you'll have a great time. You're also likely to be called a Rabbie Virgin by the others.

    You can purchase your tickets at the brewpub for $55, including tax and gratuity, or you can purchase on line for just $57. Your tickets will be waiting for you to pick up the next time you're in. See you there, and one more thing...

    Johnnie lad, cock up your beaver!

    I will plan on arriving at 5:45pm to allow for unexpected traffic. Don't expect any on a Saturday evening but coming out of Dayton you never know. All it takes is one screw up on I-70 to shut the whole thing down.

    Mike
