Being wool, it will probably help keep my head warm in the winter, but I'll have to reserve judgment on that until the fall.
It might even keep your head a little too warm, depending on the outside temp and your activity.
But, it just looks like I have gas!
You mean you didn't?

First off, I have been wanting one of those for some time now. They're beautiful! Second, I did not know that the Blaylock family had a tartan! I have a very dear friend, who happens to love men in kilts, who didn't know it either. I hope you don't mind, but I gave her a link to your picture. That tartan is beautiful!

Nighthawk: Thank you for the compliment. All the credit goes to Abigail (and a bit to Ryan for origination), of course.
I don't mind a bit about you forwarding the link. The Blaylock Hunting was designed by Dr. Phil Smith. He designed the original Blaylock tartan circa 1950 for an eponymous classmate of his at what is now Pepperdine University. The three Blaylock tartans can be viewed at

There is also a Blalack (pronounced the same as Blaylock with a long "a" and an umlaut) viewable at

Thanks so much for the very kind words, folks!
And the pics! We love seeing out hats being worn and enjoyed!
John, that bonnet looks spectacular on you, good sir. Wear it in health!

I'm very, very proud to say that your excelent green bonnet (as well as the other excelent green bonnet pictured in this thread) was made by the lovely Abigail, who has also been my partner in bonnet making for nearly a year! She does a great job- Without her, this whole bonnet project would never have happened!
Little known fact: A while back, Abigail asked me if I would teach her how to knit. She took to it like a fish to water, and that inspired me to do more knitting. The product of this inspiration was the first (and second, and third...) of the "Ryan Ross bonnets".

Bonnet is great....and so is the tartan
I would be rehashing earlier comments on the great head wear but just wanted to say that the tartan is really nice as well.

Gentlefolk: Given Ryan's last comments I felt compelled to make slight, but significant amendments to my postings above.
Thanks Abigail for knitting my bonnet, and to Ryan for creating its design. I'm leaning heavily towards Light Blue.

You can see a side-by-side comparison of my own Green and Dark Blue ones here. If you're thinking of either of the blue ones it may help you to decide whether you'd prefer the Dark or Light Blue.
