    July 4th

The village of Arroyo Seco, just north of Taos, (and on the way to the Ski Valley) has an extremely well attended July 4th parade. Piper Robert Knudson will be piping his way through the village, and would be pleased if any kilted folk wished to walk with him. The parade forms up on the far end of the village, and Robert will be in the parking lot of the community center/old school. Parking is at a premium, show up around 11am for the noontime parade.
Then...Robert will be leading the parade at Taos Ski Valley which begins at 2pm. Crowds are not as thick, and parking not so sparse, but its just as much fun.

    Five Kilts!

First, I have been keeping things light, my opinions to myself, and my head down.
Second, we had 5 kilted men in the Arroyo Seco Parade. The sole musical instrument in the entire parade was our Piper.
We five then went up and marched in the Taos Ski Valley Parade, where we led the parade.
In this parade there were two musical instuments in the entire parade, both bagpipes.
However, all men in kilts were granted free rides on the chair lift, which we really enjoyed.
    A great day!

And I am sure the ladies enjoyed that as well! Must have been somewhat of a challenge to keep things covered on a lift. As I recall from my few skiing trips, the bench seat on the lift is not that deep.

A very happy July 4th to our good neighbours to the south in general, and to the fine folk in NM (where kilted ones ride for free!)

I would have joined you, but we got run out of town by a forest fire - the Las Conchas fire. Just got back, yesterday.

We have been thinking of you folks down there. Cannot imagine what you went through. I was speaking with Kathy Lare last week and she told me how concerned she was for her kilted cutomers up on that mesa.
Glad to hear that you and your home are safe.

    Lifts

The lifts did not seem to present a problem. The safety bar has a lower bar with a footrest on it. That bar was strategically placed to ensure ones dignity.

Gordon: Thanks for your thoughts and words. Other than being a bit smoky, everything in LA is returning to normal.

Our 4th of July fireworks "show" last night consisted of sitting on my son's patio and watching a distant northern ridge smolder in flickering orange. From the other side of the ridge huge billows of orange cloud rose into the sky from the dangerous part of the fire now raging on Santa Clara land - destructive, but nature's drama on display.
