Stuart of Bute and the surname Malloy
Hello all,
Doing some genealogy research and stumbled upon something I found interesting...
One of my g-g grandmothers came to the U.S. from Ireland and her surname was Malloy. I had assumed that the surname was a derivation of Molloy with an "O".
Recently I saw a document that stated she came from Northern Ireland with the Malloy spelling.
I was further surprised that Malloy is a sept name of Stuart of Bute.
Does anyone know how Malloy is connected to Stuart of Bute?
I am starting to wonder if my g-g-grandmothers family were actually "Ulster Scots" and brought the name Malloy to Northern Ireland from Scotland.
Will have to see how far back my research will take me.
