    Regency Type Steel Buttons

Any re-enactors know if anyone is making copies of Regency Steel buttons like these?

They appear on a lot of Highland jackets c1820-30 and are quite fantastic. I'd love to find a source to add to a period jacket.

I am not sure of the size there. Just a thought, I am not sure if they were steel based, but I recall some mess dress uniform(UK) waist coats used to have round buttons like that . Perhaps a military tailor might assist?

    Peter,
Jock's suggestion about checking with a military tailor ought to yield good results. You might want to check with my tailor, Meyer & Mortimer, in London. Ring them up and ask to speak with Mr. Munday.

I have a wonderful old doublet with spherical buttons like those in the pic, made of silver. Very nice.

Check with some of the U.S. civil war "sutlers", I have seen them on a few of their websites. There are some with slightly better prices than others.

Many thanks for everyone's thoughts. I spent the morning trawling the web and found a couple of interesting links. This one looks like a potential starter for ten - http://www.chimera-costumes.co.uk/shop/shop.php

For those interested in Regency/Victorian stuff there are some useful links here - http://www.histrenact.co.uk/traders/...an/traders.php

Those links looks as though they might be a source for a modern version especially the gilt ones as further research shows the originals to be brass.

It looks as though you have a few choices of finish on the waterbury site
