    Regency Jacket Style

Came across this interesting reference from Alasdair MacDonell of Glengarry in 1822. It’s direction on dress to members of the Society of True Highlanders which he set up and ran.

‘A belted plaid and waist Belt, a Tartan Jacket with T.H. buttons & shoulder buckle, a scarlet coat THrs Cut with THrs Buttons......’

Anyone know to what ‘THrs Cut’ and ‘THrs Buttons’ refers?

I presume that the 'cut' was a particular style and the T.H. and THrs buttons were one and the same?

Given the context of the quote, I'd agree with madmacs. Perhaps a special "club style" they had made for members?

Ah, well spotted. I'm so stuck in the historically accuracy mode that I didn't think of looking sideways.

I have some pictures of a tartan jacket that belonged to one of the members ‘though I don’t know whether it was necessarily in the TH style. Unfortunately the buttons were removed and sold some years ago but in a portrait of the time they look like the classic steel/brass ball type.

The cut of the jacket is similar to the green one worn by the MacNab in Raeburn’s portrait.

    Yes, Please post pictures!

Also do you have any more information reguarding the club? I have the digital version of the book of the club of true highlanders but I am looking for more information.

    Here's a picture.

The owner should not be hard to guess. It is part of the same outfit that contains the draw-string plaid posted previously. And here it is being worn.

There's lots of interesting stuff to report about this jacket and there is about the Club of the True Highlanders but I'm not certain that there is time or room here.

    Re: Regency Jacket Style

I'm getting such an outfit made for me right now.

It should be completed in a few days.

    Best,

    Robert
