Your Razor Choice (for the partially or fully bald-faced)

Based on the recent thread regarding kilts and facial hair;

What is your razor of choice for harvesting the face-fungus?

For leisurely weekend mornings when I must shave, I use a vintage (1910's) German steel straight razor.

After one disastrously rushed morning's attempt at a "quick shave" with the straight razor (and there is a reason they call them "throat slashers") I'm picking up a safety razor for the day to day busyness.

I refuse to go back to shaving creme or an electric razor though, and disposables are WAAAAAY to expensive (a head cartridge lasts 2-3 shaves).

There's something too pleasant about a mug & brush and a face-full of REAL lather for me to give up.

SO, when you must shave at least part of your ugly mug, what do you use, or what would you like to try?

I'd like to try the brush with a real lather and a cut throat razor, but I have absolutely no confidence in my ability to not kill myself doing so.

I'm with Jordan on that my nerves may not be up to the task of using a "cut throat" razor.
Gillette disposables work fine for me.

Does anyone know if they still make the blade for the old fashioned brass handled razors that your father or grandfather probably used? Now I'm curious if I can find one of those on ebay or something.

I use a brush and shaving soap along with a safety razor. I'd love to use a straight razor but haven't had the time or money. Not too many guys my age shave with a safety razor (heck my dad doesn't) but I wouldn't go back to my electric shaver for anything.

If you mean double edged razor blades for safety razors, yes they do. Look in any grocery store or just google "classic shaving".

I use a Remington electric razer.
As a young man I thought I was cursed with a light beard.
Now that I've been shaving for 35 years, I consider it a blessing.
I imagine an electric razor wouldn't work as good on a heavy beard.

Long ago I used an Atra, but a few years back my wife bought be a brush and a Geo Trumper safety razor, and I haven't looked back. Much better shave and I can get a years supply of blades for about 10 bucks.

When I'm feeling brave, I give it a go with a straight razor that uses disposable insert blades. I'm not very good at using it, but I'm getting better.

I've tried many electrics over the years for quick morning shaves, but those things really tear me up. I can dry shave with a blade without a single problem, but one run of an electric and my skin is in terrible shape for a week.

I have an electric shaver that I keep for emergencies. I normally use a Mach 3 razor with shaving gel. I would LOVE to get a straight razor for times when I really want a decent shave and have the time. But for every day, I'll stick with my Mach 3.

I used to use the old twin blade straight razor and shaving soap, but gave that up when I started growing a beard on a regular basis. i do miss it though I admit.

Now I use a gillette mach 3 with changeable razor heads. You can get a good deal on them at costco. Since I only shave my neck and shape my beard now, they last for weeks.

I also don't use shaving cream, or worse yet shaving gel... I use Cromwell and Gruthers shaving oil. It's fantastic stuff, rub a nickel size dab into your damp beard and your good to go. It also works great in the field using cold water too. It also allows for a very close shave.

Before I joined the Navy I used a straight razor and mug and brush. Then I broke the wrist, the elbow and damaged the shoulder. I'm lucky to hit black on a target with a pistol. But I still use the mug and brush with an old Atra. Unless I oversleep; then I use a can of foam.
